Is it cold enough for you yet? With all the cold temperatures and flurries in the air lately, you would be hard pressed to not notice that winter has settled in and plans on staying for awhile. Trying to look on the bright side, I have been enjoying activities that only wintertime can offer like guaranteed bug free strolls through our woods, which I must admit, have been nice.
The other activity that I enjoy when the weather is frosty, is playing with my thermal imaging camera. The larger the temperature difference between the warm conditioned air inside a house and the biting cold outside the prettier the picture, or uglier, depending on how you look at it. Leaks of your expensive conditioned air into the wild blue yonder show up on a thermal imaging photo as pockets of red or yellow splashes in an otherwise green/blue landscape. Or the other way around if you take the picture from the inside.
Getting to see pictures of your house with a thermal imaging camera are some of the percs that come with having a Home Energy Audit and there is no better time to do one than when the temperatures are at their extremes.
That is why the recent news from the Green Jobs Alliance is so welcome right now. The folks at the GJA are starting up their new program this week called Next Step Program. This program allows the GJA help the Hampton Roads community by using grant money from the Department of Energy to fund Home Energy Audits in the Hampton Roads area. This program will cover audits done in Gloucester County. If you would like an energy audit and would like to have $250 of it paid for by the GJA then give Leslie Holthoff a call at 251-9523. The program is in the beginning stages so their website at https://greenjobsalliance.org/ talks about the receiving the grant money but does not yet mention the Next Step Program.
The program will also pay 25% of the Energy Efficiency upgrades that the certified BPI Analyst recommends for your home like duct sealing and extra insulation up to $2500. There are other ways to participate in the program as well. If you are interested, contact Leslie at the Green Jobs Alliance or drop me, your favorite Gloucester BPI Analyst an email at info@DanGuinnHomes.com and I’ll get you signed up.
Don’t delay, they have a certain number of these audits they want to get done before May of this year. I wouldn’t want you to miss out on such a good freebie!
