My husband has been thinking ahead. He was looking for the perfect Valentine’s gift for his energy nerd wife, and well, I think he has hit the nail right on the head this time. Finding a romantic gift for your wife when she’s not really into flowers and candies are definitely out of the question. This year Dan took my love for energy savings and put that together with my love of saving money and came up with the perfect gift. Nothing says love like an 18 pack of energy efficient light bulbs.
Right now at several local stores, including Wal-Mart, Lowe’s and Ace Hardware, Dominion Power has delivered a wonderful gift, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) are being offered at a deep discount compared with the rest of the CFL’s due to Dominion Power’s new Lighting Program. Rather than having to clip a coupon or mail in a ticket to receive your discount, Dominion has already paid the discount up front. All you have to do is show up and buy them. How’s that for simplicity. After he brought his amazing gift home, I had to head out to the store to check it out for myself. Although there is a large selection of bulbs being offered, not all types of CFL’s are included. I noted that there were no Instant On bulbs in any of the displays that I visited.
On the Dominion website (https://www.dom.com/dominion-virginia-power/customer-service/energy-conservation/home-lighting.jsp) Dominion explains how a CFL will use 75% less energy compared to a standard bulb and that they last 10 times as long as your regular bulbs do.
I know what you’re thinking, how in the world could a pack of CFL’s be remotely romantic? When saving energy is what you live and breathe, then you understand just how much of a difference something as small as changing a light bulb can be. And you have to admit, his presentation was pretty good too. I now have a large supply of light bulbs to share with our energy audit customers. Not to mention he gave me a topic for an article, not a small thing. I guess he really does love me after all these years. His birthday is next week. I’ve really got to top this. Any geeky ideas for a serious energy nerd’s birthday? I can’t be outdone, send me your ideas on e.guinn@DanGuinnHomes.com. Thanks for reading.
